Last, mix together all the ingredients EXPERIMENT: * Allowing your bubble solution to sit undisturbed for at least 24 hours in advance, will allow the bongs in the bubble solution strengthen, which means stronger bubbles. After making up a batch of Bubble Solution with the ingredients listed above. * Using a small bubble wand start by blowing a bubble. If you are using the pipette instead of the bubble wand, cut the bulb off the top of the pipette, dip it into the bubble solution, and blow into the other end of the pipette. If using a straw just dip and blow out the other end. * Bounce the bubble off of your gloves. It can also be bounced off other fabrics. As you’ll soon see, some fabrics work better than others. CONCLUSION: Most people don’t know that the bursting of a bubble is caused by contaminates that instantly breaks down the bubble’s mixture and destroys its surface tension. Regulation And Reform Of Euthanasia Essay Example For Students

Regulation And Reform Of Euthanasia Essay Regulation and Reform of Euthanasia Throughout the twentieth century, major scientific and medical advances have greatly enhanced the life expectancy of the average person. However, there are many instances where doctors can preserve life artificially. In these cases, where the patient suffers from a terminal disease or remains in a persistent vegetative state (PVS), the question becomes whether to prolong their life even though it may consist of pain and suffering. One of the landmark cases that involve euthanasia is that of Karen Ann Quinlan. Quinlan, a twenty-one year old New Jersey resident, overdosed on pills and alcohol in 1975. She was rushed to the hospital where her physical condition gradually deteriorated to a vegetative state. The doctors determined she had no chance of recovery. Karens parents requested she be removed from the respirator. The hospital denied their request. The Quinlans then directed their request to the court. The superior court denied their request. They took their request to the new Jersey Supreme court where the decision was reversed. Karen was removed from the respirator. To everyones surprise, Karen began breathing on her own and was transferred to a nursing home, where she remained in a coma, fed through tubes, until she died in July 1985, ten years later (Humphry and Wickett, 108).The Quinlan case brought to the forefront patients desire to die a proud, quiet death and the complications caused by the advancement of medical technology to prolong life. Individuals should have the right to die with dignity in the event of a terminal illness if he or she wants to. Those who oppose legalizing euthanasia and assisted suicide say that this could lead to voluntary killing of the aged and infirm. I agree that there may be danger of abuse of euthanasia; therefore, I support passing legislation that monitors and regulates physician assisted suicide. In order to clarify my position, I will first distinguish between passive and active euthanasia and their implications. In addition, I will examine the legal issues behind the Quinlan case and other similar cases. Finally, I will propose the argument that with proper legislation, physician assisted suicide is often a more favorable alternative to allowing patients to suffer needlessly. O. Ruth Russell defines active or positive euthanasia as a positive merciful act taken deliberately to end futile suffering or a meaningless existence where death is induced either by direct action to terminate life or by indirect action such as in giving drugs in amounts that will clearly hasten death (19). Active euthanasia is illegal in most states. Passive or negative euthanasia means discontinuing or desisting from the use of extraordinary life-sustaining measures or heroic efforts to prolong life in hopeless cases when such prolongation seems an unwarranted extension of either suffering or unconsciousness (Russell, 20). There are several different views associated with active and passive euthanasia. While some doctors and patients may accept passive euthanasia, many reject active euthanasia. Robert G. Twycross strongly disagrees with the practice of euthanasia, especially active euthanasia in Where There Is Hope, There Is Life: A View From the Hospice. Twycross uses cancer patients as an example and asserts that often patients opt for euthanasia because initially they do not feel the relieves of medication being and their pain is used as a channel of mental anguish (162). Therefore, unable to stand the intolerable pain, patients feel that euthanasia is the best way out. However, Twycross argues that compared with patients and physically fit people, doctors have been noted to express a greater fear of death, more rejection of personnel death and significantly more negative death imagery (159). Twycross argument adds a whole new dimension to the euthanasia argument. If in fact doctors are reluctant to accept euthanasia in their practice, they may discourage their patients from opting for it. .u7029a2f7932811968ffc2491acfc0b9d , .u7029a2f7932811968ffc2491acfc0b9d .postImageUrl , .u7029a2f7932811968ffc2491acfc0b9d .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u7029a2f7932811968ffc2491acfc0b9d , .u7029a2f7932811968ffc2491acfc0b9d:hover , .u7029a2f7932811968ffc2491acfc0b9d:visited , .u7029a2f7932811968ffc2491acfc0b9d:active { border:0!important; } .u7029a2f7932811968ffc2491acfc0b9d .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u7029a2f7932811968ffc2491acfc0b9d { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u7029a2f7932811968ffc2491acfc0b9d:active , .u7029a2f7932811968ffc2491acfc0b9d:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u7029a2f7932811968ffc2491acfc0b9d .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u7029a2f7932811968ffc2491acfc0b9d .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u7029a2f7932811968ffc2491acfc0b9d .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u7029a2f7932811968ffc2491acfc0b9d .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u7029a2f7932811968ffc2491acfc0b9d:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u7029a2f7932811968ffc2491acfc0b9d .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u7029a2f7932811968ffc2491acfc0b9d .u7029a2f7932811968ffc2491acfc0b9d-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u7029a2f7932811968ffc2491acfc0b9d:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Americas Growing Pains Essay Several complications arise at this point. Even if euthanasia is legalized, will doctors accept the new treatment and will patients be able to go to any doctor before worrying about whether or not the doctor will accept euthanasia when the time comes? The doctor-patient relationship and the ethical connotations of euthanasia are really important to my argument too. Dr. Malcolm C. Todd, president-elect of the American Medical Association, told the press that mercy killings have their place in certain uncorrectable fatal illnesses, but that decisions in such cases should not be left to the attending physician alone, (Russell, 46). Sistine Chapel Essay Example

Sistine Chapel Essay The Frescos in the Sistine Chapel Michelangelo was an amazing painter and sculptor, who made an impact on the Renaissance Era. The Renaissance focused immense passion towards the arts, religion, and individual experience and development. The Renaissance Era came after the Middle Ages, which possessed a completely opposite lifestyle and different art techniques and characteristics. The Middle Ages was a dark, depressing time where art had very little importance outside the art in the church. As Italy evolved from the Middle Ages into the Renaissance, specific attention was placed on humanism, realism, a transformation in art, and a different focus on biblical aspects that would forever characterize this time period as seen in Michelangelo’s work, The Sistine Chapel. With Michelangelo living during the Renaissance, humanism and realism had an effect on how he painted, and what profession he chose. Michelangelo’s father, Ludovico Buonarrotiwith, was a Florentine official with strong connections to the Medici family. In his childhood, Michelangelo was constantly around the Medici household, and surrounded himself with humanists like Marsilio Ficino and Angelo Poliziano, which influenced his way of thinking. Humanism is a philosophy or practice that focuses on how great humans can be. Man should gain the most knowledge possible, and become the finest they can be physically and mentally. Humanism is all about studying, learning, thinking, and becoming better as a man. Clearly embracing the idea of humanism, Michelangelo painted every character as strong and flawless. Michelangelo illustrates how humans are the best thing God has created, and portrays them as great. The human body is considered the â€Å"noblest living form† by humanist, and humans have full potential physically and mentally. Humanism creates a universal man who is intellectually and physically excellent and who is always honorable and virtuous. On the walls of the Sistine Chapel, the realism of humans is depicted with scenes full of human emotion and expression. Embracing the â€Å"Enlightenment† by exploring his world around him, Michelangelo moved away from a static, lifeless art style to one that highlighted human feelings and movement. Realism at this time led to the later Realism of the 19th century, where the greatness of the ordinary man became the focus of artwork. During the Renaissance, the idea of expression and emotion infiltrated the culture changing the people’s way of thinking and also the art. Michelangelo’s Sistine chapel illustrations relate to Biblical stories, and show more of a natural and authentic human perspective. The new style of art in Michelangelo’s life gave him the opportunity to paint the Sistine Chapel in a very natural and real way with all the focus on man. In the medieval times, art was abstract, dark, and heavy. Art was viewed with a completely different perspective. The medieval time was not focused on artwork, and members of the upper class were not willing to pay for artists to paint. Most artists worked for the church because the church was the only one who would pay. The church wanted art dealing with Christian aspects, so most art was religious. Medieval art typically didn’t use shading as a tool to enhance paintings. The art was normally not too colorful, and was often very dull. Unlike Michelangelo’s work on the Sistine Chapel, Medieval art was not focused on human qualities. During the Renaissance, many upper class citizens had a sudden interest for art, and many of them would hire artists to paint for them. With the new interest in art, new styles were formed, creating more unique styles and new ways of thinking. With the change to the Renaissance art style, Michelangelo’s showed the body in movement, and illustrated the nature of humans. Michelangelo used new techniques like perspective and more detail in humans to make his frescos more emotional to the viewer. He illustrated characters with little to no clothing, which was not a style in medieval art. His paintings on the walls are a great example of the Renaissance art, and show the evolution, and how far art came in such a quick time. The Sistine Chapel is home to one of the most famous pictorial artworks ever made. The walls are breathtaking, and create such an astounding Biblical presence. Pope Julius II called Michelangelo into Rome in hopes to paint the Sistine chapel. He was trying to rebuild after destruction in the city, and also worked on repairing St. Peter’s Basilica. Michelangelo was hesitant to accept the offer because he was more into sculptures, but he was left with no other choice but to accept. The walls in the Chapel hold 9 scenes from Genesis, the first book in the Bible. The frescos show God separating light and darkness, creating Adam and Eve, and more Biblical stories. Each human painted on the wall shows emotion and truly represents the stories properly. Michelangelo used new Renaissance tools and a new Renaissance way of hinking to paint a new style that has attracted people from all over the world. An average of 10,000 people travel to see the Sistine Chapel a day. Michelangelo spent years preparing for this task, and drew out each scene before it was painted. Each part of the Sistine Chapel is natural in reality, and shows more of a realistic side to Bible scenes and people than previous art. Michelangelo was considered to be the best High Renaissance artist, along with Leonardo Da Vinci. With the fame he had, many citizens would travel to see his work. With the immense amount of viewers each day, it allowed for more to see Christianity in a visual way, and helped convert countless people. People would have a strong connection to his art, and grow closer to God with seeing such beauty. Michelangelo’s work created a new way of viewing Christian art, and it allowed some to put more faith in God. Pope Julius II brought Michelangelo in to paint the Sistine Chapel in hopes that it would help restore Rome to its former glory. Michelangelo’s hard work paid off with its gigantic popularity when he first painted it, and that is still as strong today. Michelangelo is considered to be the â€Å"Renaissance Man,† and used his new styles and techniques to illustrate such beautiful scenes onto the walls and ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. He used a very real and natural body to portray realism. He showed every character with clear and strong muscles with very little clothing to show how strong and valiant humans are. His style is very unique and different from artists who had come before him. Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel is still today a very beautiful and breath-taking scene that helped separate modern artwork from the medieval art.

The main setting is the family house, the living room, kitchen, garage or one of the four bedrooms. The programme is directed and produced by the Wayans family. This is a big family made up of brothers and sisters associated with TV production. The cast includes Damon Wayans who plays the man of the house, Michael Kyle, the working wife, Janet Jay Kyle, played by Tisha Campbell-Martin. Along with TV critics who say My Wife and Kids is a popular US TV show and Funny! The new Cosby show but BETTER! This television programme conveys its main point through the characters actions and their conversations. Everything they do is comical and never dull or dreary. Every episode, the audience react with laughter. I feel that My Wife and Kids fulfils its purpose very well. Its purpose is to entertain and it does just that.  Reason being, the viewers find it highly enjoyable to watch.  For me, I really enjoy watching this programme. I find it really hysterical. The characters do and say sarcastic, idiotic things which make them really, really hilarious. I am also able to relate to most characters and able to understand them. I really agree with the main purpose because it provides me with a lot of entertainment. There is never an episode which I dislike; I actually seem to enjoy every episode that is programmed. I dont seem to have a favourite character, I love watching all of them as they are all amusing in different ways.  Im quite fond of Claire and Junior Kyle. Claire is portrayed to be very witty and dopey; shes always dropping which is quite comical. As for Junior, he is always being humiliated due to his huge head. He is portrayed to be dumb and comments are always being made towards him, making him fell worthless.  This programme can not really be improved, theres nothing to actually improve. However, more characters and more storylines could be introduced.

Auditing and Accouning Ethics Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words - 1

Auditing and Accouning Ethics - Essay Example The audit committee, which performs the audit, plays a very important role in preventing financial reports from being fraudulent. The auditors should be independent members with suitable accounting and financial expertise, to appraise the policies underlying the financial reports and to assess their validity. Auditors should ask pertinent questions to clearly understand every transaction, allegation or investigation that has happened. An audit aims to draw out the essence and truth from every answer and helps to examine the controls and processes, employed by the company, in any complex transaction that may be out of the normal process of controls. The requirement of an annual audit prompts companies to establish an effective compliance programme, which will have anti-fraud controls, to detect fraud, and proper investigation conducted, if fraud is detected. An audit is like a tool that ensures that financial reports would be accurately created and updated, internal control system would be in place and proper reporting and investigation of improper actions would be made. Most corporate fraud cases have originated at the highest managerial level. The multi-billion dollar cases of fraud involving WorldCom, Enron and Tyco International, were all results of the fraudulent activities of the respective chief executives of the companies. Tyco International’s CEO, Dennis Kozlowski, was charged with misappropriating 400 million USD of company money on an extravagant lifestyle and personal expenditure. Similarly, the cofounder and CEO of telecom giant WorldCom, Bernie Ebbers, got convicted for a fraud of 11 billion USD, in 2005. Kenneth Lay, CEO of Enron, was charged with a corporate fraud that ultimately resulted in the collapse of the company. However, in spite of strict laws that have been instituted to prevent huge losses to shareholders, employees and investors, corporate fraud is

MENTAL HEALTH Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

MENTAL HEALTH - Essay Example This paper will explore the use of the antipsychotic drug clozapine with a deep insight into the guideline that should be followed in its use in mental health centres. First, the paper will look into what clozapine is and how it works, its dosage and then look into its initiation procedure, observations and side effects. The paper will also look into haematological tests and why they are so important in the monitoring and lastly look into how smoking effect clozapine in the body. What is Clozapine? Clozapine is a drug that belongs to the group of medicines known as antipsychotics, which are mainly used in the treatment of schizophrenia (Castle & Buckley, 2011). Clozapine is a highly regulated drug under the specialised drugs program and is only intended as third line treatment for chronic schizophrenia refractory to treatment with other drugs or drug resistant schizophrenia (Labbate, Fava, Rosenbaum, & Arana, 2010). It is a second generation neuroleptic drug whose availability is tig htly controlled and can only be used when mandatory blood testing and other monitoring can be achieved at the required intervals. Clozapine was first developed in 1958 but was then removed from the market because of its potentially lethal side effects of agranulocytosis also known as neutropenia and was only approved for use in mental health centres 30 years later after a pivotal study demonstrated its efficiency and efficacy in treating resistant schizophrenia (Usher, Foster, & Bullock, 2009). In Australia and elsewhere around the globe, the risk of neutropenia and other side effects necessitated that a standard monitoring system known as the Clozapine Patient Monitoring System be used for all patients under medication with clozapine. Clopineconnect database Clopineconnect is an online database where all consumer blood test results and other essential and relevant information is stored and can be accessed by registered personnel thus making it easier to check compliance with the mo nitoring requirements. If a patient consuming clozapine does not adhere to the treatment requirements or the organisation in charge does not follow the required monitoring protocol, the database will show absence of critical information and the prescription of the medication must cease in accordance with the set protocol until the required monitoring is completed (Usher, Foster, & Bullock, 2009). How Clozapine waorks Clozapine is a very strong drug and should only be used where other medications have failed but it also requires patience as positive effects of the drug may not be realised until 4-6 weeks and the full positive effects may not be realised until 6-12 months where consistency is very important (Lauriello & Pallanti, 2011). Clozapine is very effective in alleviating the normal symptoms of schizophrenia such as social withdrawal, lack of motivation, lack of interest in doing things and lack of energy. It is also very efficient in treatment of hallucinations, delusions, agi tation, unusual thinking, speech and behaviour (Stahl, 2006). Clozapine works through interaction with neurotransmitters, which are used by the cells in the brain for communication. Too much or too little amounts of neurotransmitters in the brain cause abnormalities in behaviour and clozapine works by blocking
